Introductory days

Dear New Students

Where can I register for my courses? How should I organize my studies? And what does the University of Bern have to offer me alongside my course of study? If you have these and other questions you would like answers to, then visit the introductory days offered by the University of Bern in the week before the start of the semester.

Einführungstage für Erstsemestrige der Universität Bern

The introductory days 2026 are taking place from September 10 to 11.

On Friday, september 11, the freshers' day for first-year students provides an introduction to studying, gives a picture of life at and around the University of Bern and offers the opportunity to make first contacts. It is also intended to provide answers to questions about studying and to help you find your way around the university.

  • First of all, the University introduces itself in a official welcome event with the Rector. You will receive general information about studying, about the services offered by the various university offices, the Student Union (SUB) and the Counseling Service of the Universities of Bern.
  • You will receive subject-specific information directly from the faculties and institutes of your major and minor in introductory events on-site.
  • You will also have the opportunity to get to know the university groups on the Campus Student Groups in UniS.

The daily schedule with detailed information on the introductory events and the university city map are compiled in the booklet «Leporello 2026». Use this overview to put together your individual daily programme.

The Preparation Workshop provides you with lots of practical tips, so that you will be well equipped for the start of the first semester. The programme includes the following topics:

  • Learning strategies for daily studies
  • Support services offered by Universities of Bern Counselling Centre
  • Introduction to CTS (platform for the administration of courses and examinations)
  • Introduction to ILIAS (teaching and learning platform)
