Prepare and plan courses
Entering a course, accompanying it online, managing registrations and planning the daily teaching routine more easily - all this is part of the semester planning of a course.
Register courses
Create courses in CTS
In order for students to register,
- the course must be recorded (course coordinator)
- the eligibility for crediting to studies = assignment to vessels must be defined (subject coordinator).
- the course must be cleared (subject coordinator)
- the registration/deregistration deadlines must be set (persons responsible and administrators of the course)
The deadlines for courses and performance checks are recorded separately.
In the public domain (without login) the view is the same for all users. If you are logged in, your last settings can be saved to show you the usual view the next time you visit. The event tree is structured by study programs. This allows you to quickly find an overview of the creditable courses in the individual vessels. The course catalogue shows the details of the courses.
Manage registrations
If course registrations are made through the Core Teaching System (CTS), the lists of participants can be managed in CTS. If registrations are made via ILIAS, members can be managed directly in ILIAS.
Maintain registration lists in CTS
In order for students to register,
- the course must be recorded (course coordinator)
- the eligibility for crediting to studies = assignment to vessels must be defined (subject coordinator).
- the course must be cleared (subject coordinator)
- the registration/deregistration deadlines must be set (persons responsible and administrators of the course)
Lecturers are obliged to inform students of the modalities of the courses and performance checks in the first courses of the semester.
Persons in charge (and lecturers in this role) can neither give someone a request for a spot nor change the order of the requests for spots. If someone were to be deleted from the list of requests for a spot, they could simply re-register. It is only sensible (if necessary) to edit the participant list manually. There, it is possible to manually assign places that are secured. This is also possible if the registration deadline is still running. Once the registration deadline has expired, the list of requests for spots is transferred to the list of participants. If the deregistration period is still running after the registration deadline, registered students can still deregister. However, registrations can only be added manually.
Note
CTS Video
In case of uncertainties regarding the registration procedure, the CTS introduction video will help.

Use dates in ILIAS
Create transparency: Present the progression of the semester in your ILIAS course or coordinate dates and announce changes. Dates from KSL are automatically transferred to the ILIAS course. You can use them to assign materials or to provide more detailed information about the dates.
The calendar can serve as a starting point for students.
Prepare digital reserve list
Have a digital reserve list created
The University Library of Bern UB creates a digital reserve list for your courses. The electronic version of the classic reserve list offers journal articles and excerpts from books in digital form. Thereby the materials can be used by the participants of a course at any time from any workplace with internet access.
The digital reserve list can be added directly to your own ILIAS course.
Design digital course environment
ILIAS as digital accompaniment during the semester
ILIAS is the central teaching and learning platform of the University of Bern. It can be used both for the efficient and simple accompaniment and support of attendance based courses as well as for the implementation of extensive online courses.
With ILIAS you can make the contents of your course and information about it available to students online. For this purpose you need an ILIAS course, which you can open via CTS (if your course is advertised in CTS) or order via a separate form (if your course is not advertised in CTS).
