The University Ordinance and the study regulations form the legal basis of an extension of your period of study.

Maximum duration of the extension of the period of study per request and reason:

Reason for leave of absence

1 semester; if longer, the students should be given leave of absence

1 semester; if longer, the students should be given leave of absence

Childcare

Pregnancy

Study-related internships outside the plan of studies

1 to 2 semesters, depending on the duration

Period of study away from the University of Bern

As long as the period of study lasts

Language courses for non-German speakers

1 semester

Military service        

1 to 2 semesters; depending on the duration of the military service

Community service        

1 to 2 semesters; depending on the duration of the community service

Civil protection        

1 semester

Disability        

1 to 2 semesters; depending on the degree of impairment
