CTS
Plan your semester and view your grades
CTS is the University of Bern’s administrative system for teaching. This is where you manage your academic records.
CTS also lists all courses, including relevant information such as who organizes and supervises the course, as well as the location and time of the course.
Without logging in, you can access the University of Bern's course directory in CTS.
Once you log in (using your SWITCH edu-ID with Campus Account), you will be able to manage your academic records.
How to use CTS
View the course directory
The course directory provides detailed information about individual courses. There are three search options available for finding courses:
- Simple Search: a single search field
- Advanced Search: find specific courses using multiple search fields
- Course Tree: search within a degree program
The CTS course description also indicates whether the course is linked to ILIAS, in which case an ILIAS link is displayed. The course description also indicates whether registration takes place via CTS or whether you should join the ILIAS course directly.
CTS and ILIAS are linked via an interface, allowing, among other things, student registrations from CTS to be transferred to ILIAS courses.
Enrolling and withdrawing from courses and assessments
Course registrations are generally handled through CTS. However, some departments operate differently and use other systems or methods for registration, e.g. ILIAS.
Students must register for exams directly through CTS. If instructors require registration via CTS, registrations and withdrawals made there are legally binding. From an administrative standpoint, registrations and withdrawals in CTS are only possible within the specified deadlines.
Be sure to read the regulations, study plans, and appendices to the study plans that apply to you, as well as the departmental publications, at the very latest before or at the start of your studies. This information is legally binding. Consult your study counselor for additional information!
While good planning and organization of your studies do not guarantee good grades, they do provide a solid foundation for them. Please note that there are different registration procedures for individual courses and assessments. In particular, there are different deadlines for registering for and withdrawing from individual courses and assessments.
Lecturers will announce the requirements for each course, particularly the procedures for registering for and withdrawing from courses and/or assessments, during the first sessions of the semester. Therefore, you should not assume that you will find all the information online. If in doubt, please check with your instructors, teaching assistants, or the academic advising office.
View grades in the planning view
If you are logged into CTS, the planning view provides a quick overview of the credits that can be applied toward your degree in each category:
- Information on the program structure
- Completed and planned registrations for courses and assessments
- Your individual study progress
In the planning view, credited courses can be assigned to the desired categories. When determining credit eligibility within a degree program, you must also consider RSL, SP, and appendices, as CTS cannot account for all exceptions. Grades in CTS become legally valid upon official notification.
Apply for graduation
You can't apply for degree certificates through CTS; instead, you must apply through the dean's office responsible for your major. This applies to bachelor's, master's, and PhD degrees.
Degree certificates must always be confirmed by the dean's office and are only considered valid once the corresponding transcripts or diplomas have been issued.
