ILIAS
Using teaching materials in digital course rooms
ILIAS is the University of Bern’s central teaching and learning platform. Here you will find materials and digital content for your courses.
You can also use iTools to create your own surveys or work in digital workspaces.
Students at the University of Bern log in to ILIAS using their SWITCH edu-ID by selecting “University of Bern” as their home institution. Students from other universities select their home institution and log in using their respective login credentials.
How to use ILIAS
Enrolling and withdrawing from courses and assessments
Course registrations are always processed through KSL. After you have registered for a course there, your information will be automatically transferred to ILIAS within approximately 60 minutes.
Access course materials
If your course is accompanied by the ILIAS teaching and learning platform, you will find the course materials there.
Course instructors are responsible for creating and providing the content for ILIAS courses. Not all courses use ILIAS in the same way. The content, features, and recordings available depend on the specific course and the lecturer. ILIAS courses may include the following:
- Downloadable reading materials
- Course information
- Podcast recordings
- Self-tests for exam preparation
- Assignment submission boxes
- Discussion forums
View course recordings
The University of Bern has equipped several lecture halls with podcasting infrastructure. If a course is recorded, you can view the recording within the ILIAS course. Whether a lecture is recorded depends partly on the room’s facilities and partly on the instructor’s decision to record or not.
Using iTools for your own workgroups and projects
iTools are particularly useful if you want to collaborate independently with fellow students, create surveys, or set up your own digital workspaces.
The iTools Survey Station allows you to easily create and conduct a public online survey, free of charge, using the ILIAS survey tool.
The iTools Collab Corner allows you to create your own short-term working group using an ILIAS group.
Support
At the University of Bern, ILIAS is operated and supported by ILUB (Innovative Teaching & Learning Technologies at the University of Bern).
