Room rental

The teaching rooms of the University of Bern are primarily reserved for events that are part of the University of Bern’s official operations. Where possible, the teaching rooms may also be made available for additional events in the fields of science, culture, and continuing education (see Regulations on the Use of Teaching Rooms at the University of Bern (PDF, 754 KB)).

Availability

During the semester, the teaching rooms of the University of Bern are primarily reserved for regular teaching and examination activities. Accordingly, their use for other events is limited. Rooms may be used subject to availability in the evenings from 6:15 p.m. onward and outside of semester periods, provided that teaching activities are not affected.

Terms and Conditions

Room allocation is based on the principle of equal treatment of all users. There is no entitlement to specific rooms or to customary allocation. Rooms are assigned with their existing equipment. Any additional technical or infrastructural requirements must be arranged by the event organizers themselves. The applicable requirements and rules are set out in the Regulations on the Use of Teaching Rooms at the University of Bern.

Reservations and Deadlines

Room requests must be submitted well in advance, especially for courses, examinations, and recurring uses. Each request must include complete information on the organizer, date, duration, number of participants, and required infrastructure. Teaching activities always take priority over other events when rooms are allocated.

Room Information and Floor Plans

Information on locations, room sizes, capacities, and available infrastructure is provided in the University of Bern’s room database. For questions regarding room planning, suitability of rooms, or the coordination of complex uses, the Room Reservation Center is available to provide guidance and support.

Contact

The University of Bern operates several room reservation offices to meet the different needs of its organizational units. A distinction is made between a central reservation office and decentralized contact points.

Central Reservation Office

The Room Reservation Center coordinates the allocation of teaching rooms that can be used across the University, in particular for general courses and external requests.

Decentralized Reservation Offices

In addition, many faculties, institutes, and organizational units have their own reservation offices. These offices are responsible for rooms that are managed specifically within their respective areas.
