DORA Declaration
Over the past 15 years, the academic community has been advocating for reform in the evaluation of research, researchers, and institutions. Traditional methods rely on metrics such as the h-index and journal impact factors, whereas the reform movement calls for more responsible, context-sensitive assessment that goes beyond purely quantitative indicators.
Important milestones:
- 2012 San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA)
- 2022 Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA) Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment
- 2024: Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information
The University of Bern signed DORA in 2016 and fully supports the reform movement. It also plans to sign ARRA and the Barcelona Declaration in the near future. With this, the University of Bern reaffirms its commitment to a scientific culture based on excellence, integrity, and fairness.
