Tasks
Legal Services Office
The Legal Services Office advises the members of the Executive Board of the University of Bern, the faculties and other university bodies as well as the administrative offices in university matters. The legal assistance service of the Student Union of the University of Bern (SUB) is available to students.
Legal collection of the university
University Archives
The University Archives of the University of Bern collects documents of archival value (protocols, records, correspondence, legacies, photos etc.) from throughout the university and prepares them for permanent archiving in the State Archive of the Canton of Bern. It also advises the offices within the university on the management of their documents and assists researchers seeking archive material on the history of the university.

The team at the Secretariat supports the Secretary General and the President in administrative, organizational and scheduling matters concerning the following:
- Secretariat for the Senate, Executive Board of the University of Bern, President and Secretary General
- Forwarding of doctoral dissertations
- Awarding of diplomas
- Point of contact between the university and the armed forces
- Social Fund Foundation
- Orientation day for first-year students
- One-day academic holiday

Point of contact between the university and the armed forces
The point of contact between the university and the armed forces is the official advisory and contact point between the University of Bern and the cantonal military authorities and armed forces.

Social Fund Foundation
The Social Fund Foundation is attached to the Secretariat General and offers registered students financial support in acute emergencies.

Introductory days and fresher's day for first-year students
The General Secretariat coordinates and organises the annual Introductory days and the fresher's day for first-year students, which are held each year on the Wednesday to Friday preceding the start of the autumn semester.

Dies academicus
The Dies academicus commemorates the founding of the University of Bern in 1834. The foundation ceremony is held each year on the first Saturday in December.
