International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersex and Transphobia IDAHOBIT
May 17 marks the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersex and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT). This is due to May 17, 1992, when homosexuality was officially removed as a disease from the classification system by the World Health Organization (WHO). As of early 2022, trans identity is also no longer listed under mental disorders by the WHO. The pathologization of intersex people is still ongoing.
As a sign of acceptance and solidarity, rainbow flags are hoisted worldwide - since 2022 also at the University of Bern.
