Office for Quality Assurance and Development (QAD Office)

In collaboration with the Vice Rectorates, the staff of the Executive Board of the University of Bern, and all university units, the Office for Quality Assurance and Development (QAD Office) ensures that the quality strategy is coordinated and implemented in all areas of the university.

Furthermore, the office is responsible for the institutional accreditation process for the University of Bern, the management of the Commission for Quality Assurance and Development, and the interlinking of agents in quality-related matters.

The Office for Quality Assurance and Development (QAD Office) supports members of the university with quality assurance and development (QAD), promotes the quality culture and assists in the development and implementation of QAD measures.

The QAD Office works together with the vice-rectorates, the staff of the University Executive Board and all other units within the University to ensure that the University's quality strategy is coordinated and implemented throughout all parts of the University (evaluation of courses and study programs, research assessment, evaluation of Centres, etc.).

It is additionally responsible for the University’s institutional accreditation process, managing the QAD Commission and networking stakeholders in quality-related matters.

Commission for Quality Assurance and Development (QAD Commission)

Quality assurance and development (QAD) is of a participatory nature and is borne by all members of the university through collaboration on committees or direct participation in the development, improvement, and review of performance (feedback, exchange, etc.).

The Commission for Quality Assurance and Development, which advises the Executive Board of the University in all matters concerning quality assurance and development, forms the basis of the entire QAD organization. The faculties, central administration, intermediate staff and students each have a Quality Representative who is a member of the university-wide Commission. The Quality Representatives in the faculties are supported in their work by Quality Assistants and/or Quality Coaches. The Quality Representatives chair, where applicable, quality assurance and development committees within the faculties in which the Quality Coaches act as the link to the departments and institutes of the faculties and promote QAD activities there.
