Registration number
The registration number is a unique number that is assigned to each student when they first enrol at a Swiss university, University of Applied Sciences or University of Teacher Education and is therefore unique throughout the country. It is issued once and does not expire, i.e. it remains the same if you change university. It is determined by the Federal Statistical Office.
The number has eight digits. The first two digits represent the year of first matriculation. The next five digits are blocks of numbers reserved for the individual universities. The last digit is a check digit.
