UniBE students incl. doctoral students
Registration
Students of the UniBE, including doctoral students, may register for the courses. Participation in the courses is subject to a fee.
Doctoral students may also register for the two free courses
- German for Prospective Teachers B2–C1 and
- Teaching in English with Confidence: Optimizing Use of English as a Medium of Education
These courses are not open to bachelor or master students.
Registration for semester courses opens approximately two weeks before the start of the semester. The exact date and a link to the placement test will be published in German and English.
- You have never attended a UniBE language semester course: the placement test is obligatory. You can only register for a course after taking the placement test. (The number of participants is limited to 20 per course.)
- You have an international language certificate (not older than 12 months: please contact the secretariat (info.daf@unibe.ch or info.aes@unibe.ch). In this case, you can be exempted from the placement test.
- You successfully completed a semester course last semester: you will receive a link to register for a course at your target level.
If a course is full, you can register for a place on the waiting list. You will be informed by email if you can join the course. Please check your emails regularly.
You can register for a block course without a placement test. Further information including registration deadlines can be found here.
After the course begins, you will receive a payment link by email.
Conditions of participation
Because the semester courses are taught at a fast pace, students are required to attend at least 80% of all the sessions and complete self-study tasks. For the block courses, we also expect regular attendance and the completion of assignments.

ECTS points and course certification
- ECTS credits are awarded on successful completion of a course and its coursework. Students at the UniBE may include course grades and ECTS points from language courses for Academic English from level B2/C1 in their Diploma Supplement as optional courses.
- Mobility or exchange students who wish to use the ECTS credits for their studies at their home university should clarify in advance whether the ECTS credits will be recognized there.
- Once you have successfully completed your course, you can obtain a confirmation of course completion from the Language Center.
