Advisory service

As the Support Center for ICT-aided Teaching and Research (iLUB), we offer the staff of the University of Bern our professional expertise in the area of ICT-aided teaching and research. We support you from the downloading of course materials through to comprehensive e-learning projects.

You receive didactic and technological expertise from a single source. In our individual advisory sessions you benefit from our close collaboration with other central institutions such as Learning and Development and IT Services which enables us to assist you with your questions and requests in a competent and interdisciplinary manner.

We clarify your needs concerning the deployment of new teaching and learning technologies at an initial joint meeting.

Thanks to our close collaboration with Learning and Development, the transfer of know-how between classroom-based and media-based scenarios is guaranteed.

Tasks

The Support Center for ICT-aided Teaching at the University of Bern (iLUB) offers lecturers and assistants a service intended to promote innovations in teaching, particularly aspects of ICT-aided teaching. As a decentrally organized support center (CCSP - Competence Center of Service and Production), iLUB is at the service of all units of the University of Bern.

• Survey of activities among lecturers regarding the use of ICT in teaching and their support needs.
• Advice and support of institutions, lecturers and assistants of all faculties of the University of Bern with the aim of using ICT elements to enrich teaching.
• Design and adaptation of ILIAS to local conditions of the University of Bern.
• Support of lecturers in the use of the ILIAS learning platform.
• Advice and support on the use of collaborative tools such as software for video conferencing in courses or file sharing in working groups
• Courses on using development tools from teaching materials and hands-on courses to ILIAS (platform for teaching and collaboration).
• Cooperation with other CCSPs and e-learning competence centers at Swiss institutes of higher education.
• Interface between users and provider of the plagiarism detection software PlagScan.

Competencies

As a centrally organized support center (CCSP - Competence Center of Service and Production), iLUB is at the service of all units of the University of Bern and has belonged to the Office of the Vice President for Teaching since 2010. Prior to this it was managed by the AUM Learning Center and the Institute of Educational Science (IfE).

The Support Center for ICT-aided Teaching can fall back on the long-standing experience of the AUM Learning Center at the Faculty of Medicine and the Institute of Educational Science (IfE) at the Faculty of Human Sciences and offers professional expertise in the area of media-supported teaching.

While technologies are subject to constant change – some media mature, others disappear and are replaced by new ones – the art of good e-learning remains the same: students should be able to interact with contents that are optimally prepared in didactic terms using technology that supports the learning process.
