Organization and members
University-wide institution
The Collegium generale is a university-wide institution, reporting to the Senate. The Collegium generale is financed by the University of Bern. On occation, costs are shared by external bodies (e.g. embassies).
The Collegium generale is composed of representatives from all faculties: lecturers, teaching and research assistants, and students. Administratively, it is part of the General Secretariat.
Twice a year, usually in March and October, the Collegium generale convenes for its regular sessions and decides on new themes and discusses other relevant matters.
Participation
Teaching staff and researchers
Faculty members and early career researchers submit proposals for subjects and projects with an interdisciplinary component by making a request to their faculty representative in the Collegium generale or by referring directly to the head office or executive committee.
A working group of teaching staff and researchers is established for each project. In conjunction with members of the academic staff of the Collegium generale, this group is then responsible for designing and organizing courses and events.
Students
The Collegium generale is particularly aimed at students and invites them to attend the lecture series as part of their own course of study. Students from all disciplines are credited with 3 ECTS credits upon completing the course requirements. Accreditation in various study programs indicates the importance of cross-disciplinary perspectives.
General public
Except from the Münchenwiler seminar, which is intended for university members only, all events are open to all interested members of the general public.
