Assistant professor

Assistant professors carry out research and teaching tasks within their institute or another organizational unit with regard to their professional development for an academic career. They enjoy independence and responsibility within their research and teaching position.

Assistant professorships at the University of Bern are awarded with or without tenure track, i.e. with or without any guarantee of obtaining a permanent position following a successful evaluation. The post of assistant professor is also awarded to young candidates holding a Eccellenza professorial fellowship funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation or benefiting from European Research Council funding.
