Here you will find some more information and tips that may be helpful for your travel preparations.

In order to use the motorways in Switzerland, you must  purchase a motorway tax sticker ("vignette") which comes either as sticker or an e-vignette.

The voltage and power sockets may be different from those in your region. Check this in advance and buy adapters and a power converter, if necessary.  

 

Students and employees of the University of Bern with young children can apply for places in the University Day Care Center. The fees are based on the family income.

Compulsory schooling begins at the age of five. Including kindergarten, children must attend school for 11 years. More information can be found in the chapter Family and couples.

Check with your provider to find out which offers or data packages are suitable for the first few weeks until you have signed a suitable subscription in Switzerland. 

Important: Switzerland does not have EU-roaming!

In the first weeks, you should expect additional expenses such as ID fees, rental deposits, public transport passes and insurance policies. Therefore, make sure you have a "financial cushion" and easy access to your bank account.

It might be helpful to carry the following documents with you. Original documents in French or Italian are often accepted. A German translation or an "international format" also might be helpful.
