Combinations of Study Programs & Study Program Structure

The specifications for a degree program contain at least three pieces of information:

  • degree or title worked towards
  • mono or major
  • minor; depending on degree program

The combination of study programs selected must add up to 180 ECTS credits for a bachelor's degree program and 120 or 90 ECTS credits for a master's degree program. Medicine, which is worth 180 ECTS credits at master's level, is an exception. Some degree programs allow you to select study programs with different special qualifications. Please think about the possible study program structures in this respect and the plan of studies for your degree program. The system checks the degree and combination of major and minor programs as they are entered. It is you, however, who are essentially responsible for ensuring the combination of study programs is correct.

Example:

Bachelor of Arts/Science in ...

Studienprogramm ECTS
Mono/Major 120
Minor 1   30
Minor 2   15
Minor 3 oder Freie Leistungen   15
Total 180

Master of Arts/Science in ...

Studienprogramm ECTS
Major   90
Minor   30
Total 120

Study Program Structure

With the exception of mono programs, all degree programs consist of one major and one or more minors. The study program structure, i.e. what needs to be studied in terms of one major and one or more minors, is stipulated in the plan of studies for the major.
The plan of studies also defines whether

  • an obligatory minor needs to be studied
  • any restrictions apply when selecting the minor
  • there is an option to study required elective courses (Faculty of Humanities and Faculty of Theology: choice available).

What study program structures are there?

You can find the details you need under the tab "Combination possibilities" of the different study programs.
