Erasmus+
Erasmus+ is the most important European instrument for educational cooperation and facilitates international networking, innovation, and higher education development. The program offers students, doctoral candidates, faculty, and staff a wide range of opportunities for international mobility, teaching, professional development, and collaboration. In this way, Erasmus+ promotes international exchange at all levels of the university and strengthens the international networking of the entire higher education community.
Through Erasmus+, Europe-wide initiatives are launched to shape and further develop the European Higher Education Area. These include European University Alliances, digitalization measures, and pilot projects on European degrees.
Participation in Erasmus+ enables universities to leverage synergies and opportunities such as:
- Joint curricula and degrees
- Development of innovative teaching formats
- Support for the digital transformation of teaching
- Access to European project funding
- Active participation in and strategic development of the European Higher Education Area
Erasmus+ thus represents a strategic investment in the competitiveness of Swiss students and universities and fosters the education for internationally experienced, digitally competent young talent, who collectively strengthen Switzerland as a hub for innovation and business.
The current Swiss alternative solution covers only student and faculty exchanges. However, participation in institutional cooperation programs is crucial for the university’s modern development.
The Executive Board of the University of Bern therefore strongly advocates for Switzerland’s association with Erasmus+.
