Digitization offers numerous opportunities, but also poses risks - how do we deal with them?

 

Digitization is often presented as a challenge, as if it's happening no matter what. But is digitization really a good thing? What are the risks? How can we shape it in accordance with our ethical values?

Learning outcomes:

Students will be able to…

  • ... indicate key opportunities and risks associated with digitization from an ethical perspective.

  • ... take a well-founded stance on the consequences of digitization for the working world.

  • ... explain how digital applications influence human decisions and how this can be dealt with.

  • ... discuss the extent to which digitization affects our self-conception as human beings.

  • ... correctly use central terms of ethics (e.g. good life, autonomy) and relate them to examples.

Eligibility requirements: Affiliation with a Swiss university
Credit transfer to study program:
The possibility of crediting the module to one's own study program must currently be agreed upon bilaterally with each respective study program.
Authorship: The module was developed in a cooperation between the Institute of Philosophy, the Learning and Development Unit and the Support Center for ICT-Aided Teaching and Research (iLUB).
Completion: Students receive a confirmation of completion upon successful completion of this module.
