Using whiteboards to collaborate

Online whiteboards are particularly well-suited to real-time collaboration and can be used in a variety of ways – such as developing ideas, creating lists, mapping processes, or for an icebreaker in an event.

Do not use any personal or sensitive data, copyrighted media or research data on your whiteboards.

Zoom

The University of Bern recommends the Whiteboard included free of charge with the university-wide Zoom license. You can create, manage, and share whiteboards directly in your Zoom account – both during and outside of Zoom meetings. Log in to the UniBE Zoom Portal via your browser or desktop app. Outside of a meeting, you must log in using SSO (unibe-ch) with your Campus Account.

Miro

The University of Bern does not offer a campus license for Miro whiteboards and therefore no central support. In order to make use of the maximum range of functions and a certain level of data protection, an education license is recommended. Miro stores the data on servers in the USA.

For security reasons:

Do not ask others to create a Miro account.
Set your whiteboards to private (Settings > Permissions > Sharing settings > Only board owners can access).
Save your whiteboards as PDFs.
Delete data or whiteboards that are no longer needed.

Teams

Microsoft’s Whiteboard feature is available in your web browser or directly within a Teams meeting and is recommended for taking spontaneous notes during a work meeting.
