Open calls for ENLIGHT initiatives
The University of Bern and ENLIGHT support collaborative bottom-up initiatives within the six focus areas of ENLIGHT. Especially for early career academics, this is an opportunity to build an international network and gain interdisciplinary teaching experience. Depending on the call, lecturers, researchers, students and employees of ENLIGHT universities are invited to apply.
ENLIGHT Thematic Network (ETN)
Are you interested in building a long-term cooperation network with other ENLIGHT universities, generating opportunities for joint initiatives (e.g. a summer course, a citizen-science initiative or a mobility program) and are looking for funding?
What is an ETN?
An ETN is formed by a multidisciplinary academic team from at least three ENLIGHT Universities and cooperates with local stakeholders. The topic should be within the six ENLIGHT focus areas, have a long-term perspective and aim at societal relevance and impact. The funding can be used for preparatory, coordination and support activities.
Possible output
Joint seminars, summer courses, thematic conferences, Bachelor, Master or PhD modules, courses or programs, citizen-science initiatives, mobility programs, knowledge transfer programs, leadership and entrepreneurship programs, etc.
Minimum number of ENLIGHT universities
Members of at least three ENLIGHT universities are required to participate.
Maximum funding amount
The maximum funding amount for an ENLIGHT Theamtic Network is €150,000, shared between the partners involved.
Eligible costs: Personnel costs and purchase costs (travel, subsistence and other goods).

ENLIGHT Future-proof Incubator Grants
ENLIGHT incentivizes the design and upscaling of bottom-up initiatives across all three study cycles (Bachelor, Master and PhD) that address current societal challenges and enable students to become globally engaged citizens.
What are Future-proof Incubator Grants?
The Future-proof Incubator grants fund bottom-up initiatives that contribute towards societal transition to a sustainable future and human wellbeing within the six focus areas of ENLIGHT. These educational initiatives develop global competences and connect learners with societal stakeholders such as NGO, municipalities or companies.
Possible output
Initiatives funded by ENLIGHT Future-proof Incubator Grants could be blended intensive programs, blended mobility, living labs, winter/summer schools, co-teaching of courses etc.
Minimum number of ENLIGHT universities
For physical and blended formats: At least 3 ENLIGHT universities are required to participate.
For virtual exchange: At least 2 ENLIGHT partners are required to participate.
Maximum funding amount
The maximum funding amount for a Futur-proof Incubator Initiative is €30,000, shared between the partners involved.

ENLIGHT+
ENLIGHT+ aims to support small scale initiatives to make our campuses greener and more inclusive. Grants are available for a range of initiatives, including outreach programs, collaborative events, community workshops or sustainability and inclusion projects.
The ENLIGHT+ call is also open to students.
What is ENLIGHT+?
ENLIGHT+ projects could be information sessions, clean-ups, or any kind of promotion of sustainability and inclusivity. We need your creativity to make our campuses a better place! We want to encourage students to submit proposals seeking funding for a variety of initiatives. These may include, but are not limited to:
- Outreach programs or campaigns
- Organizational support for events and workshops
- Procurement of materials and equipment (such as work supplies or video production, for example)
- Funding for mobility
Possible output
- Small-scale projects
- Collaborative events
- Community workshops
- Sustainability projects
- Inclusive campus projects
Minimum number of ENLIGHT universities
For on-site and hybrid formats: At least 3 ENLIGHT universities have to participate. For virtual exchanges: At least 2 ENLIGHT universities have to participate. Special condition for the University of Bern: At least 2 ENLIGHT universities have to be involved in student initiatives.
