Campus and Infrastructure University Sports

General Terms and Conditions (GTC)

The University Sports Bern offers a range of sports and exercise as well as various services. The general terms and conditions (GTC) apply to all who register for a Unisport offer or take advantage of one.

Identification required

Access to and participation in the sports offers and the use of services is only permitted with valid ID. The ID must be presented during inspections and at any time upon request. You can find out here whether you are allowed to take part in the sports and exercise program of the University Sports Bern.

Persons who cannot show a valid ID will be excluded from the offer. In this case, any fees owed for the offer will not be waived or reimbursed.

Prevention of the provision of services

University sports are entitled to change offers and operating times, to close necessary for operations (e.g. due to public holidays, space requirements for universities, municipal or cantonal schools, cleaning, revisions, conversions, etc.) and / or to delete individual parts of the sports offer temporarily or permanently without later replacement . A suspension of the sports offer due to force majeure is also permitted (for example for safety reasons, due to an official order and the like). In these cases, those in possession of the ID are not entitled to a (partial) reimbursement of fees paid or to an extension of the validity period of the university sports ID.

The University Sports Bern offers the following:

  • Trainings
  • Training with a registration list
  • Courses
  • Competitions
  • Events
  • Services

Trainings are free of charge and do not require registration.

Training with registration lists is free of charge, but a training place must be reserved online. The participant can electronically release the training area again up to one hour before the start of the training.

Registration

Students of the University of Bern, the PHBern and those who have a university sports card have priority over students from other universities when registering for courses. Therefore, appointments in the first week after they have been approved online can only be booked by you. Afterwards, the booking is equally open to all eligible participants with valid ID. Registration for a paid offer is binding.

After receiving your registration, University Sports will send you an electronic confirmation with the payment details. The course costs are to be paid within 30 days of receipt of the confirmation, unless otherwise stated in the offer. If payment is not made on time, the amount will be invoiced with a grace period of 15 days and a reminder fee of CHF 30.00.

Signing off

Cancellations of participants must be made online or by email to the university sports secretariat (unisport@unibe.ch). Participants are prohibited from giving course places to third parties. When canceling, the following cancellation fees will be charged depending on the time of cancellation:

  • within 48 hours of registration - free of charge if the course starts in 6 days or later
  • up to and including 31 days before the start of the course - 50% of the course costs, but at least CHF 30.00
  • 30 days before the start of the course or later - 100% of the course costs

The cancellation fees described above also apply if you cancel with a medical certificate. It is therefore recommended to take out cancellation insurance.

Course changes and cancellations by university sports

University sport reserves the right to change the location of a course, provided that it is within a reasonable distance from the originally announced location. This also applies to changes to planned means of transport. Any additional costs incurred as a result, for example for travel or accommodation, will be borne by the participants. If a course is canceled by university sports, the course costs will be fully reimbursed or waived. Further claims by the participants are excluded.

University sport organizes and hosts competitions at local, national and international level. There are competitions that are free for participants and others that require an entry fee.

Registration

All competitions are advertised on the university sports website www.sport.unibe.ch. An expression of interest for participation is sent directly to the responsible sports department manager or a coordinator appointed for this purpose. After the preselection, the heads of the sports department or coordination persons decide which athletes are selected for the competition.

From this moment on, you need to register via the university sports booking system. Depending on the size, duration, location, etc., the competitions are associated with costs and organizational effort and require a binding registration at an early stage. Even if the selection process is still in progress (e.g. for athletes with reserve status), the full participation fee is due within 30 days of registration. If payment is not made on time, the amount will be invoiced with a grace period of 15 days and a reminder fee of CHF 30.00.

Refund of the participation fee

The registration fee will be fully refunded if registered athletes are not admitted to the competition or the competition is canceled.

Signing off

Cancellations have to be made to the responsible sports department manager. Participants are prohibited from giving course places to third parties. In the event of cancellation, the costs incurred, up to a maximum of the full participation fee, will be charged.

Even if you cancel with a medical certificate, the cancellation fees described under "Courses" apply. It is therefore recommended to take out cancellation insurance.

Events are usually free of charge, but require registration. In justified cases, university sports can demand a contribution to costs or a deposit. The deposit is used to make the registration binding and will be reimbursed after the event has taken place. If you cancel at short notice on the day of the event or if you do not show up at the event, the deposit will be collected from university sports.

There are free and paid services.

Registration is required for both. In the case of paid services (massage, fitness room advice, etc.), cancellations must be made online or in writing to unisport@unibe.ch at least 24 hours in advance. Appointments canceled or missed at a later date will also be invoiced with the full amount if the person is at fault (e.g. illness with a doctor's certificate).

Liability and Insurance

Participation in the university sports program is at your own risk. The university assumes no liability for accidents that occur during university sports activities. The participants are responsible for adequate insurance coverage.

The university assumes no liability for damage to or loss of personal effects on the facilities or during university sports activities. Any liability for items deposited is also excluded.

In the event of property damage due to improper handling of sports equipment or contrary to the instructions of the training supervisor, those who caused the damage have to pay for the damage.

It is up to the participants to take out insurance for the cases described above.

It is recommended that you take out cancellation insurance.
