Everyday tips

Keep the following export control tips in mind in your daily work!

Knowledge exchange, technology transfer

Before knowledge exchange of unpublished technology, goods classification must be carried out. This rule applies to e-mail correspondence, participation in conferences and congresses abroad, and telephone or direct exchanges with research colleagues abroad.

Research collaborations and grants

Do not accept any unilateral conditions that go beyond the law with regard to export control.

Export of equipment

Before (temporary and definitive) exports, donations or loans, make sure that the export control number and the country of origin of the goods are known and, if necessary, that an export licence is available.

Classification of goods

Classify results (technologies) from research to be sure whether an export licence from the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) is required for the exchange or for the first publication.

Procurement

When procuring goods, ask the supplier to provide the export control number, the country of origin and the customs tariff number (only for goods) with the offer. This information is important for the classification of goods.

Employment, guests, study admissions

Check the job for export control-relevant content and document the result accordingly if a job has to be advertised. The classification of the job supports the HR process when applications are received from persons from embargoed countries. The same applies to Master's programmes and their admissions.
