Capoeira

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian combat sport that strongly features dance moves.

It is practiced above all on the streets of Brazil, in the favelas and at the universities.
Brazil's Associação Brasil Capoeira was founded in 1985 by 21-year-old Matias Lopes. He already had a passion for capoeira at the age of 14, swiftly realizing that, for him, capoeira is not just a sport but a way of life.

In 1989 this prompted Lopez to leave his homeland and head for Switzerland to tell Europe about capoeira. Thanks to his flair for teaching, he very quickly managed to whip up enthusiasm for capoeira, particularly among youngsters. Capoeira is a combat sport where actual fighting only goes on in the mind. The moves of this sport are driven by the rhythmic tempo of the musical accompaniment. This involves not just playing these instruments, but also how they are built.
