On our new research platform swisscovery University und PH Bern you will find books, journals, e-books, e-journals, databases, videos, sheet music, historical prints or maps of the University Library of Bern and the PH Bern - and with one click the holdings of a total of 475 scientific libraries in Switzerland.
Services
Mittelstrasse Library is open to the public; however, its services and collections are aimed at the needs of researchers, lecturers and students of the University of Bern.

Services
- Registered users (IDS library pass or Unicard of the University of Bern) may borrow books and media from the library (conditions of borrowing and use are based on the usage regulations of the University Library Bern).
- free media courier between certain libraries of the University of Bern

- information and research assistance during service hours
- library, catalog and subject-specific introductions
- subject-specific information about research, publication or academic communication by subject librarians

Mittelstrasse Library is an open access library and comprises around 200,000 documents on the following subjects:
Archaeology of the Roman Provinces and Prehistoric Archaeology
- prehistory and early history of Europe
- archaeology of the Roman Provinces in Europe and Northwest Africa
- Swiss medieval archaeology, experimental archaeology und museum science
Mediterranean Archaeology
- art and culture of Greek and Roman Antiquity
- art and culture of the Etruscans
- bilingual editions of ancient authors
Near Eastern Archaeology
- Near Eastern Archaeology (from India to the Mediterranean and from Southern Russia to the Arab Peninsula with a special focus on Iraq, Syria and Turkey) from the beginning of the Epipalaeolithic to the end of the Ancient Oriental Empires
- cuneiform writing with emphasis on Sumerian and Akkadian
Art History / Museum of Fine Arts
- specialized literature in all fields of art history and architecture
- source texts and encyclopedias (on-site use)
- journals (latest 10 volumes, on-site use)
- rare books (16th-19th centuries, on-site use)
Gender Studies
- basic literature on gender studies and various other disciplines
- classical and recent works of women’s and gender studies

Musicology
- literature on all fields of musicology including cultural anthropology of music
- collection focus: European music theater, opera of the 19th century
- music: complete editions of individual composers, memorial and series editions, scores, study scores, piano scores

Sustainable Development
- literature on sustainable development
- scientific and interdisciplinary literature on all aspects of sustainable development

Theater Studies / Performing Arts
- specialized literature in all fields of theater (drama, opera, operetta, musical, dance), including puppet theater, cabaret, variety shows, circus, showmanship and theater-related traditions
- reference works and journals (on-site use)

gut 15'000 Medien, von einer umfangreichen Sammlung an Opern bis zu einem
Bestand an Musik aus der kulturellen Anthropologie. Diese Coffee Lecture
erklärt die öffentlich zugängliche Sammlung, die Nutzung der Datenbank und der
Medien selbst.

Die Sammlung Haller: Mit obrigkeitlicher Bewilligung – Hunde- und Affentheater, starke Frauen und Wachsbossierer (Brigitte Bättig, UB Bern, Zentrum Historische Bestände) Schaustellerplakate und Theaterzettel aus der Druckerei Haller geben Einblick
in Berner Spektakel zu Messezeiten der Jahre 1800-1859. Die Schaustellerplakate
sind Teil der Sammlung Druckbelege Haller. Diese ist nach einer zweijährigen
Erschliessung nun für Öffentlichkeit und Forschung zugänglich. |

DigiSem – Semesterapparate elektronisch (Gabriela Scherrer, UB Bern) Für Dozierende und Institute der
Universität Bern stellt die Universitätsbibliothek digitale Semesterapparate
zusammen. Die elektronische Variante des klassischen Semesterapparats bietet
Zeitschriftenaufsätze und Auszüge aus Büchern in digitalisierter Form und macht
sie über Ilias zugänglich. Die Coffee Lecture beschreibt konzis das Vorgehen.
