State and Market endowed professorship

The University of Bern is setting up an endowed professorship for "State and Market", which will be supported by four strategic partners. BKW AG, Gebäudeversicherung Bern (GVB), SBB AG and Securitas AG are financing the professorship, which has initially been set up for four years and is based at the University of Bern's Center of Competence for Public Management KPM. It has an entrepreneurial focus with an administrative science component. It focuses on issues relating to points of tension such as state interference versus private autonomy, governance of public or state-regulated companies or matters concerning service provision in an environment marked by liberalization, competition and market deregulation. Professor Andreas Lienhard, Managing Director of the Center of Competence for Public Management, believes it is essential to consider current, real-life issues relating to the tension between state and market. The resulting interdisciplinary research findings can thus flow into teaching and further training and in turn feed into practice.
