Measures taken by the faculties
The 2021 strategy of the University of Bern stipulates: "Genuine gender equality is to be actively pursued by all.“ Since 1991, the Regulations on Gender Equality at the University of Bern have obliged the faculties to define goals and measures for increasing the proportion of women in those areas in which women are underrepresented. These faculty control instruments are intended to achieve a balanced proportion of both genders in all areas of university life.
The action plan for gender equality at the University of Bern 2013-16 will give this control instrument a new slant. From 2015, the faculties and individual centers will have their own plans for gender equality which will apply for a period of four years. The plans are based on positioning as regards the seven spheres of activity.
