Annual Report, current issue

Rector Christian Leumann on the 2018 annual report

«All over the world, young people are taking to the streets because of climate change, thus putting global warming back on the agenda with full force. For the scientific community, however, climate change and its effects have been an ongoing topic for many years. Researchers from the University of Bern have long been pioneers in international climate change and sustainability research, and have contributed a great deal to increasing our awareness of pressing issues and potential solutions. The large-format photos in this year’s annual report show some examples of that.

The University of Bern was also at the forefront 50 years ago on July 21, 1969 when the first two people landed on the moon. Astronaut Buzz Aldrin placed the Solar Wind Composition Experiment, which had been primarily designed at the University of Bern, in the lunar sand before planting the US flag.»
