Q: Can anyone join the TANDEM program?
A: No, the TANDEM program on the digital platform is only open to students and to members of staff employed by the University of Bern and its partner institutions. We also recommend that the participants have reached at least language level A2 in their target language before registering.
Q: How long will I have to wait for a suitable TANDEM partner?
A: Once you have created your profile on the digital language TANDEM platform, the search can begin. The profiles displayed will correspond to the language(s) offered and the language(s) searched for, which you specified when you created your own profile.
Q: What happens if I can't find a TANDEM partner?
A: If you cannot find a TANDEM partner who matches your search, try again later.
Q: I have found a relevant profile for me. What next?
A: When you have found a profile that fits your needs, click on "Request TANDEM". This will automatically send a message to this person indicating that you are interested in a TANDEM. The person concerned can then accept or reject your request.
Q: Do we have to meet face-to-face?
A: TANDEM learning can also be conducted via chat lines (for eg. Teams, Skype, Zoom, etc, ). Just arrange the preferred method of communication with your TANDEM partner.
Q: It isn't working out with my TANDEM partner. Can I change?
A: We recognize that there may be instances where you want to change your TANDEM partner. If you cannot find a common solution, look for a new language partner.
