Coronavirus: Information for lecturers

Information on examinations

On 20 March 2020, three principles for examinations were published, which were then defined and expanded in more detail on 7 April 2020 in COVID-19 Regulations (download in German).

Due to the uncertain prognosis for the development of the pandemic, it has been decided together with the faculties that all examinations must be arranged using an online solution, and will take place on the originally scheduled dates in May and June. The University of Bern will adhere to this solution. A very limited number of warranted exceptions have been identified. The faculties and Executive Board of the University foresee no further exceptions.

In the next few days, the faculties and institutes will inform students about the exact form in which exams will take place.

Principles for examinations at the University of Bern in FS 2020

  1. Examinations and assessments which are scheduled for Spring 2020 will take place during this semester on the originally scheduled dates. For the Faculty of Medicine, the rules communicated by the Dean's Office also apply.
  2. Examinations and assessments will be arranged digitally.
  3. Examinations that are not passed in the Spring semester 2020 will be cancelled and students will be entitled to a new attempt.

More information about the examinations and planning for the next semester can be found at or here as a presentation (in German).

Reading rooms open again for students and researchers as from June 8, 2020: For staff and students of the University of Bern and the PHBern, as well as for students of the BENEFRI programme, a reduced number of study places are available in the reading rooms of the Münstergasse Library, the Basisbibliothek Unitobler, the Medical Library, the Library of Law JBB and the Swiss Library of Eastern Europe SOB as from June 8.
