Review of the Dies academicus 2018
At the 184th Dies academicus of the University of Bern seven people were awarded an honorary doctorate and nine people were given academic awards.
In his address, Rector Christian Leumann focused on the future of teaching and the influence of digitisation. The new Director of Education of the Canton of Bern, Christine Häsler, gave her first speech at the Dies academicus. Thomas Jordan, Chairman of the Governing Board of the Swiss National Bank and alumnus of the University of Bern, stressed the importance of the education system for Switzerland's success. Valentina Achermann, board member of the StudentInnenschaft der Universität Bern (SUB), called for more equal opportunities at the university.
