Opening hours

The Sustainable Development Library is a sub-library of the University Library Bern (UB) that is operated in collaboration with the Centre for Development and Environment of the University of Bern. It is an academic and interdisciplinary specialist library with an extensive collection of books, journals and documents from various topic areas concerning sustainable development as well as inter- and transdisciplinarity.

The selection of books in the library is geared first and foremost to the needs of the researchers, students and lecturers of the Centre for Development and Environment (CDE).

We are also pleased to receive your purchase proposals.


The conditions of borrowing and usage are based on the University Library Bern’s user regulations. A user account is required for borrowing.

The books are located in the open access area where they are categorized by subject area and can be ordered and borrowed via swissbib Basel Bern.

Journals and reference works can be viewed on site and are not available for borrowing. Photocopies can be made on site using a Unicard.

Books may be returned at any time (the building is open Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.).

Interlibrary loans only to libraries.
