Opening hours

Reserved books can be collected from Monday to Thursday during the normal office opening hours; books can also be returned during these times. Please apply at the reception of the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine.

The Social and Preventive Medicine Library is a sub-library of the University Library Bern (UB). It offers literature on the research priorities of the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine and is primarily intended for members of the university, students and other specialists. Other interested persons are likewise welcome.

Most of the collections are freely accessible and borrowable (except for journals and some reference works). They can be searched for using the swissbib Basel Bern catalog.
The library is public and borrowing takes place on site using IDS user cards or equivalent. Books are sent by interlibrary loan only to libraries, not to private individuals.

The Social and Preventive Medicine Library collects literature focusing on the following:

  • epidemiology
  • statistics
  • healthcare systems and promotion
  • clinical medicine
  • environmental medicine
  • lifestyles
  • principles of social and behavioral research

All media of the library can be searched for and ordered online via swissbib Basel Bern.

Borrowing

The conditions of borrowing and usage are based on the University Library Bern’s user regulations. A user account is required for borrowing.

Registered customers (IDS user card or Unicard) may borrow books and media from the library.

You can reserve older books contained in the archive via the swissbib Basel Bern catalog and collect them from the library after one day at the earliest and two weeks at the latest.

There is no messenger service with other libraries.

Introductory sessions

Introductory sessions on how to use the library and systematic literature research are held within the scope of study programs and on request.
