The Faculty of Theology was created in 2001 by combining the Faculty of Old Catholic Theology and the Faculty of Protestant Theology.

The study of law provides the requisite knowledge of various areas of the subject and the ability to independently analyse and solve problems of jurisprudence. The Faculty manages the National Centre of Competence in Research on International Trade Regulations.

The Faculty of Business, Economics & Social Science has existed in its present form since 2001. The Institutes that make it up address management and economic processes and fields of inquiry together with social and political issues.

Faculty of Medicine

The Faculty of Medicine is engaged in research and teaching to promote and disseminate scientific knowledge in the field of healing and its foundations. Since the number of places for students is limited, admission is restricted in accordance with numerus clausus principles. The Artificial Organ Centre exemplifies the Faculty's strong focus on biomedical engineering.

Vetsuisse Faculty

The Vetsuisse Faculty was created in September 2006 through the merger of the Bern and Zurich Faculties of Veterinary Medicine. It strives to promote the health and wellbeing of animals and the quality and safety of animal products.

Faculty of Humanities

The Faculty of Humanities comprises 18 institutes. Courses of study are grouped in the three areas of Art and Cultural Studies, Archaeology and History, and Languages and Literature.

The Faculty of Human Sciences was officially founded in September 2005. It is made up of the three institutes in which psychological and pedagogical matters traditionally play a major role.

Faculty of Science

The Faculty of Science disseminates the current state of knowledge in the natural and life sciences. In research placements, in the laboratory, in the field, and even in outer space it provides instruction in the gathering, analysis and interpretation of experimental data and in systematic observation. The Faculty is participating in the National Centres of Competence in Research on Climate and North-South and is an international leader in space research.
